Uche Oboko was born to the family of Mr and Mrs Sunday Abor Osammor of Idumu-Ogwude Quarters in Ogwashi-uku, Delta State, Nigeria on the 2nd of April, 1974. She started her primary education at Community Primary School, Amawbia and later proceeded to Girls’ Secondary School, Amawbia for her secondary education. She finally completed her secondary education in St Roses Girls’ Grammar School, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English language (second class honours upper division) from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State; a Master of Arts (Teaching of English as a Second Language) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Foundations and a Doctor of Philosophy in English from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State respectively.
She started her academic career from Madonna University, Nigeria in 2007 where she rose to the rank of a Reader. She resigned from Madonna University after fifteen years of meritorious service where she held many administrative positions and served in various committees. These include but not limited to: Head, Department of English, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Okija Campus, Coordinator, School of Part-time Program, Chairperson, Inter-Departmental Debate Committee, and Secretary, University Journal, Research and Publications Committee to mention but a few.
Currently, Uche Oboko is on the employ of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. She is a Reader in the Department of English and Literary Studies where she is the Head of the Department and the Acting Dean of Faculty of Arts. She serves in many committees of the University which include but not limited to: University Library and Publications Committee,
University Academic Planning Committee, University Governing Council Development Committee, University Disciplinary Committee of the Senate and University Business Committee of the Senate to mention but a few.
As an erudite scholar, she has attended many academic conferences at national and international levels. She has many book chapters and journal articles in notable international and national journals to her credit. One of her recent works explored Impoliteness, Indirectness and Implicature in Igbo Female Degrading Proverbs from a socio-pragmatic angle while the other interrogated the Politeness Strategies, Formulaic Expressions and Address Forms among Family Members in Enuani and Tiv Kinship Cultures.
Her research interests include: Syntax, Pragmatics, Politeness Studies, Sociolinguistics, Applied linguistics and Language Studies. Her hobbies include: writing, reading, researching, listening to good music and dancing. Uche Oboko is happily married and the marriage is blessed with children.
