Library and Information Science

Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba is one of the three new universities established by the Delta State government and approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2021. Library and Information Science as a Department was among the 19 newly approved programmes by the NUC in 2023/2024 Academic Session. The Department of Library and Information Science was carefully chosen as a result of emerging issues in education, training and practice of managing information and knowledge in all areas of life and various types of organizations, including libraries, information centres, record management outfits, corporate establishments, manufacturing and industrial organizations, and other sectors of the society. Not only that, the concerns of professional librarians, information practitioners and knowledge managers across Nigeria demand that the discipline of information studies/management is due to be unbundled into various independent academic programs as follows: Library and Information Science, Archives and Records Management, Knowledge Management, Publishing Technology, etc. This was as a result of the recommendations in the report of a committee set up by the Nigerian Association of Library and Information Educators (NALISE) in 2020. The Department is domiciled in the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences.
