Dr NGOZI-CHIKA Chiazor Stephen
(SENIOR LECTURER)
Department of Geology
Dr Chiazor Ngozi-Chika is a senior lecturer and the head of the Department of Earth Sciences (Geology, Geology and Mining, and Applied Geophysics) at Dennis Osadebay University. He possesses a robust academic background, holding a B.Sc. in Geology and Mining from Enugu State University of Science and Technology; an M.Sc. in Mineral Exploration and Mining Geology from the University of Jos; a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Ilorin; and a B.Ed. in Educational Management (First Class) from Salem University, Lokoja.
He is an active member of various professional organisations, including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) and the Nigerian Society of Economic Geologists (NSEG). Before joining Dennis Osadebay University, he served as the director of research at Tizel Integrated Services and was a lecturer at Salem University, where he also held significant administrative roles such as SIWES coordinator and chairman of the quality assurance committee.
Dr Chiazor’s research expertise spans multiple areas within geosciences, including remote sensing, GIS, geochemistry, mineral exploration, mineralogy, economic geology, and the study of mineralisation and geological processes. His interests also extend to medical geology and public health, focusing on the environmental impact of trace elements on food security and human and animal health, as well as the evaluation and mitigation of natural and human-induced hazards like flooding, climate change, mining, and pollution.
His current research involves the application of remote sensing, satellite imagery, and geologic field mapping, alongside lithogeochemical, pedogeochemical, and stream sediment sampling. This work aims to identify anomalies, classify ore types, understand mineral paragenesis, and reveal the geological processes that control mineralisation. He also leverages digital geoscience tools, geostatistical methods, and spatial statistics to enhance research precision.
Dr Chiazor is a frequent participant in both national and international scientific conferences and has been recognised with several awards for his contributions to geoscience and public health, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
