Prof MOJEKWU Joseph Nnamdi

Prof. Joseph Nnamdi Mojekwu holds the BSc. in Statistics, UNIFE; MSc. in Statistics, UNILAG; M.A. in Demography, University of Ghana, Legon; MBA, UNILAG, and Ph.D. in Social Statistics from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). Professor Mojekwu joined the service of the University of Lagos on the 1st of November 1995 as Lecturer Grade II and rose through the ranks to the position of Professor in 2012. He was Head of Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance from 2006 to 2009 and 2016 to 2019. He delivered his inaugural lecture titled “Data Sufficiency: Solution to the Complexity of Society” in 2015. He served a one-year sabbatical leave on three occasions in, (i) Redeemer’s University, Mowe, Ogun State from 2009 to 2010. (ii) Lagos State University, Ojo, from 2017 to 2018. (iii) Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu from 2023 – 2024. Prof. Joseph Nnamdi Mojekwu although retired, is not yet tired as he is currently a Professor on contract appointment at the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State. He won many awards and scholarship grants both nationally and internationally. He won several research grants from the Central Research Committee (CRC) and the National Universities Commission (NUC). Prof. Mojekwu has over 70 publications to his credit in learned national and international journals and a standard textbook in Business Statistics. Prof. Mojekwu’s research interests include Social Statistics, with specialization in Mortality Analysis, Actuarial Modelling, Demographic Analysis and Social Research Methods. He is a lead Examiner and Consultant to many professional bodies in Nigeria such as, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI). Prof. Mojekwu is a member of reputable professional bodies including, the Nigerian Statistical Association, Fellow, the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria and a Chartered Statistician (CStat) of the Royal Statistical Society, United Kingdom. Prof. Mojekwu is currently the Chairman of Sustainable Education and Development Research for Africa which is a group of African Researchers with Headquarters in Accra, Ghana. The group organises annual conferences on issues that border on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how to make Africa a better continent and the proceedings published by Springer Nature. Prof. Mojekwu has supervised and assessed more than 300 undergraduate research projects, 250 Master’s Dissertations and 25 Doctoral Theses across five universities in Africa. Professor Mojekwu has been actively involved in numerous community projects in his local community as a way of giving back to his community. He is happily married and blessed with children. Advice to University Community: Prof. Mojekwu advocates that; (i) University community should love one another (ii) University Management should endeavour to maintain due process in all their activities.
