Prof. Ben Emukufia Akpoyomare Oghojafor
Prof. Ben Emukufia Akpoyomare Oghojafor was appointed the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State in March 2021. Before his appointment, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management), University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.
He was born on February 1, 1956 at Abraka, Ethiope East LGA of Delta State. After his primary school
education, he attended Orogun Grammar School, Orogun, Delta State and later proceeded to the Federal
School of Arts and Science, Ogoja. He obtained the Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc ) Degree in Business Administration
(Marketing) from University of Lagos in 1984. Immediately, he applied to pursue an M.Sc degree where he majored in General Management (Strategic Planning) in 1987. As a scholar of no mean repute,
he got his PhD in Strategic Management in 1993.
Prof. Oghojafor’s versatility is not limited to the university environment. He is a recipient of many Awards, including: UNILAG Golden Jubilee Distinguished Alumnus Award ( 2009, 2010 & 2012), Junior Chamber International Nigeria Award for Outstanding Support and Services (2011) and Department of Business Administration Graduating Class Award for Outstanding Contribution (2009). Professor Oghojafor is a Fellow, Academy of Management Nigeria; Fellow, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria; Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered); and, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Administration. He is also a Member of Africa Academy of Management and the British Academy of Management among others.
As an astute administrator and manager of men and materials, Professor Oghojafor is the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc, Professorial Chair of Finance, University of Lagos and Distance Learning Institute (DLI) Board, University of Lagos till date. Professor Oghojafor is also a consultant and lover of sports. His hobbies include Squash, Golf, Swimming, Handball, Photography and Chess.
When he assume his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba in March 2023, he was faced with several challenges such as lack of competent manpower to kick start the University and inadequate infrastructure for a conducive learning environment for staff and students. Undeterred by these hurdles and hindrances, Professor Oghojafor, within the space of three years, with the assistance of the state government and other stakeholders, has been able to surmount some of these challenges and powered the university to an enviable height.
Though Dennis Osadebay University is still fledgling, the astronomical growth in student population occasioned by the expansion of programmes, and the construction of new infrastructures are pointers to a bright future for the university. Therefore, it is not incredulous to argue that Professor Ben Emukufia Akpoyomare Oghojafor, as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, is a trailblazer and pathfinder who continues to implement the mission of the university in empowering the future generations.
